Benefits/Compensation for Interns

Data Center Technician Intern- The base pay range for this internship is USD $22.02 - $28.46 per hour. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $26.20 - $29.71 per hour.    


A) Software Engineering Intern

Overview of the Role:

Software engineers (SWEs) work with teammates to solve problems and build innovative software solutions. You are passionate about customers and product quality, and you provide technical guidance to Technical Program Managers and Product Managers, who consider user needs and product requirements. You will also be expected to demonstrate an ability to learn and adopt relevant new technologies, tools, methods, and processes to leverage in your solutions.  As an SWE, you are dedicated to the design, development, and testing of next-generation software that will empower every person and organization on the planet to achieve more.     

Qualifications

Required Educational Qualifications 

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Must have at least 1 semester/term remaining following the completion of the internship

Preferred Qualifications

  • It is preferred that applicants should have the ability to demonstrate an understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures and algorithms

Responsibilities of the Successful Applicant

The responsibilities of a successful applicant are as follows: 

  1. Seek feedback and apply internal or industry best practices to improve technical solutions.
  2. Demonstrate skill in time management and completing software projects in a cooperative team environment.
  3. Review current developments and proactively seek new knowledge that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations
  4. Apply engineering principles to solve complex problems through sound and creative engineering.
  5. Work with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a feature.
  6. Quickly learns new engineering methods and incorporates them into work processes.

B). Data Center Technicians INTERN

Location: San Antonio, Texas, United States

Responsibilities of Interns

  1. Handle data-bearing devices (ex., Hard drives, solid state drives, etc.)
  2. Work within a ticket-based environment
  3. Move equipment using pallet jacks or other assisted lifting equipment.
  4. Support deployment of on-site datacenter physical infrastructure
  5. Install, replace, and troubleshoot cables and hardware
  6. As required, assist the Datacenter Inventory and Asset Management Team (DIAT) with shipping/receiving and inventory management to address high work volumes.
  7. And to also embody their culture and values.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  1. Past or current Microsoft Data Center Academy Student.
  2. Currently pursuing or have completed a certificate or degree in Information Technology, Information and Communication Technology, or a closely related field.
  3. High School Diploma, or equivalent.
  4. Basic knowledge of computer hardware and components.

Other Requirements: 

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements is required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: 
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Able to communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders.
  • Proficient in written and oral English communication to support regional and global teams.
  • Desire to learn, grow, and develop new technical skills.
  • Applicable certifications: CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+), Basic Structure Cabling (BSC).
  • Ability to support frequent standing, walking, lifting, and working at heights with or without equipment assistance.
  • Flexibility to work non-standard business hours that may include weekends and/or holidays.
